The problem with shopping for a therapist or coach is that you do not know what you will get until you are sitting in front of her/him and have had a chance to talk and hear what she/he says. Because I am confident that you will feel helped by me, I do not charge you for the first session if you feel that I have not been helpful to you.
I was trained to be a therapist at John F. Kennedy University, a place people in the counseling field regard as having a top-notch training program. Prior to becoming a therapist, I received a masters degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (the application of psychology in the workplace), and worked in human resources and recruiting in the corporate world. Because of this, I tend to see each person as a part of a whole, whether they are a part of a whole family, or work group, or any organization. We are each a part of an ever-changing dynamic that surrounds us. This is called the systemic view. So, not only do I offer my clients a more comprehensive view of their problems, given my trainings in the dual areas of psychology (personal and workplace), but I also offer my clients a more comprehensive view of their problems because I am able to see how their environment, particularly others in their environment, affect their problems. Not all psychotherapists view clients' problems and solutions this way. Some ONLY analyze clients based on traditional methods, such as delving into clients' early childhood and not much else.
My style of doing therapy is compassionate and warm yet direct. I give my clients a lot of information to empower them from the very first session. Because of this, some clients only need to see me for a brief period of time to reach the results they are looking to achieve. They may then come back from time to time to get coaching on other issues that come up in their lives. Some of my clients want to have deep insight into their problematic repetitive thought and behavioral patterns that are rooted in their experiences with their family-of-origin, and so I apply more traditional psychoanalytic theories and methods with working with them.
Psychological theories that I apply in my work are: Systemic (Structural, Bowenian), Relational, Control Mastery, Mindfulness, Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Narrative, Strategic, and Brief Therapy.
